FEMA News Release Issued January 12, 2017

Eligible Hurricane Harvey survivors receiving Transitional Shelter Assistance (TSA) may be eligible to receive an extension to stay temporarily in hotels while they look for an alternative place to live. Disaster survivors with a continuing need for the hotel sheltering program may be extended to March 18th. There is a mid-term eligibility review on Feb.20th where survivors participating in TSA will receive a phone call, email, and/or text message advising them if they have continued eligibility for assistance through a TSA participating hotel.

To be considered for TSA eligibility, disaster survivors must be registered with FEMA for disaster assistance, and meet other TSA eligibility criteria. At the time of registration, evacuees are told if they’re eligible for hotel payment assistance and are given a FEMA registration number that must be provided to the participating hotel at check-in. Payment covers room and taxes only. FEMA pays the hotel directly, meaning evacuees must lodge at a hotel that participates in the FEMA program. A list of participating hotels may be viewed using the FEMA Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) Hotel Locator. It is recommended to call hotels to check room availability prior to traveling to the hotel. If survivors are without internet access, they may call the FEMA hotline @ 800-621-3362 for assistance.
