West Street needs fans! It’s been over 6 months since Harvey, but many homes are STILL wet from floodwaters. Even worse, many people in our community are living in unsafe conditions in these wet and molding homes, with nowhere else to go.
West Street is working to get fans in as many homes as possible to move the drying process along. Not only will it make the homes safer for the families living in them, it will get them closer to their next steps to rebuilding their homes. We have volunteers ready with addresses and moisture meters, what we need now is fans. Lots of them! And power strips are super helpful. The drying process can take a few weeks even with multiple fans running. Box fans do the trick; high velocity fans designed for worksites or carpet drying work even better.
With so many homes in Houston soaked by Harvey, we can only imagine how many fans were purchased for short term use. Please consider donating your used fans so we can put them to good use again. Don’t have a fan to share but want to help us out? Our fave fan models are listed on our Amazon wishlist . And we accept monetary donations through our YouCaring fundraiser.
When we’re done with all these fans, we’ll donate them again! Meals on Wheels collects fans every summer for their clients, many who either don’t have or can’t afford air conditioning. After your fan improves quality of life for families living in wet homes, we’ll pay it forward once again to keep someone in need cool and safe this summer.
Fan and power strip donations can be dropped off anytime on the front porch at 1707 West Street. Please text or call Jocelyn @ 832-316-7092 with a heads up for the delivery. We’ll pick up too, please contact Jocelyn to coordinate pick-up if you can’t deliver.
