Support Our work
Since Harvey, we have grown into a year-round organization with full time staff. We have ongoing home repair, research, and organizing projects and are proud to have grown a community of deep relationships and mutual care. The work we do in Northeast Houston is made possible by the generosity of individuals from the greater Houston area and beyond, who dedicate their time, money, or skills to advancing a just recovery for their neighbors.

Volunteer with West Street
We work primarily in NE Houston, an area heavily impacted by flooding during Hurricane Harvey and Imelda, the COVID pandemic, and damage from Winter Storm Uri. We’ve accomplished much of our work the last few years thanks to the support of our awesome volunteers. During the ongoing pandemic we have kept our work crews as small as possible. As of late 2021 we are looking to slowly bring back in-person volunteer opportunities following our Covid-19 Protocols.
At this time we have a high need for volunteers with plumbing experience, and skilled volunteers with experience hanging drywall, taping and floating, painting, installing floors, or doing other finishing work. If you have these skills and are interested in volunteering with us, please complete this form.
We have other random fun volunteer opportunities come up like research, translating, searching for supplies and building materials, planning events, and transporting supplies and donations. If you’re interested in getting involved, please complete this form.
Groups or Organizations: Groups of volunteers are welcome! Larger groups are fun opportunities for us to take on bigger projects, and we can often match a project to the team we have joining us. If you are an organization or large group looking to volunteer, please email connect@weststreetrecovery.org.
On ethical volunteering: A few words about volunteering in marginalized communities. We are not here to dictate what needs to be done. We are here to listen, ask questions, engage in relationships and work in solidarity with communities that are already established, skilled, and knowledgeable. To uphold these values we seek to follow the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing.
Donate
Since starting West Street Recovery, we have worked diligently to ensure the funds we raise have the most impact possible. We follow a careful and well considered decision making process, seek donated materials whenever possible, hire contractors who live in the communities we work in, and rely on an incredible volunteer network for much of our home restoration work. We are especially seeking recurring donations as we continue building our organization’s capacity to take on more projects and grow sustainably.
Become a Monthly Donor: Funding streams we can count on are key to our operations, as they allow us to plan our projects efficiently, further extending the impact of every dollar we raise. To become a monthly donor please select the Monthly option in the donation form.
Donate by credit card through our Donorbox to the left. Donations through Donorbox will automatically send a receipt for tax purposes.
Check donations can be mailed to West Street Recovery at 20 North Sampson Street, Houston, TX 77003.
